Why do you hate your wife's family so much?
Are they still in your lives? If so, how so and to what degree?

Let’s see
Her brother in law molested her
Her sister (still married to him) protected him and trivialized her abuse (she also felt up her other sister at the behest of the brother in law)
Her dad is an abusive alcoholic
Her mom and brother ignore all of this and are still close with the brother in law
We only communicate with her other sister, who thankfully is a very good person. Everyone else is cut off.

My ex father-in-law is known to have diddled little girls. Like, at one point CPS was notified that there were 'questions' with his behavior and they said "oh yeah, we know about him" but didn't go any further. We were astounded for two reasons: 1) Oh, people know about this? and 2) wait, people know about this?! He's a respected member of the Catholic Church (a few, actually) and when we told the father in charge that it was a bad idea for him to be in charge of the girls basketball program, nothing was done. No one believes it. And if they did, they just say "well if he confessed then all is forgiven." I really dislike organized religion.
Also the first time I got pneumonia was while we were living with them. (This was pre-ex status) My wife's got three younger siblings, and there's a twelve-year gap from her to the next oldest so they were 12, 10, and 6 at the time. Anyway, they asked him what that meant and he told them that I was going to die. Scared them half to death, but the most I could do was not die because, as I said, we were living there too until we found a house.
So I get it when you talk about baseball bats. We signed him up for multiple porn magazine subscriptions and also some of the magazine subscriptions that are "bill me later" so he'd get the magazine and then a few months later a bill for them. Put his phone number in a lot of databases.

I feel your pain, bune. Looking back, it seems completely insane to me now that we allowed ourselves to stay in that deeply fucked up environment for so long. But we were kids; we did what we had to do.

That's interesting. I love that scene. It was always more empowering than cringy for me. Maybe it's a sales thing. Either way, fuck that guy for eating those turtles.

50% passing grade.
I’d pick Rivendell too.
