Revisiting Chinatown reminds me how much Polanski's endings always seem to cut me to the bone like nothing any other filmmaker does. Something about his worldview speaks to something deep in my core and always has. Thinking about it now, I think just about all of his work falls in to two kinds of endings:

Ending A: Society is corrupt and/or everything is fucked

Ending B: Life goes on, but these people will never be the same after this experience

Some examples:

Knife in the Water: B
The Fearless Vampire Killers: A
The Ghost Writer: A
Chinatown: A
The Pianist: B
Rosemary's Baby: A
Death and the Maiden: B
Bitter Moon: A
The Tenant: A little A, a little B

Seems a little strange to me that his dark outlook would have spoken to me when I first discovered his work since I was a hardcore optimist at the time. It's as if he knew something about me before I did.

Over the past wee while
Arctic - Beautiful movie - absolutely loved this to bits
Fighting with my Family - was so much better than I was expecting. Was talking about watching this with my wife and my 3yr old said 'You can't fight with your family, 'cause they're you're heart'
Cold Pursuit - meh. It had it's moments, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it

Wine Country.

Some big laughs. Had fun. Nothing to write home about, though.
