If Winds Of Winter gets released, I am certain he will quickly be a couple of hundred pages into the last book. The rest should be easier then.

He doesn't seem to have much interest in writing these books right now. And like most writers, once the story is actually told, it gets harder and harder to stay interested. It's why many writers don't discuss their ideas before they write them. There's a "magic" in the actual telling. Even he's already this disinterested... I'm just saying. It won't surprise me if it never gets finished.

Hopefully, he will finish them. But at this point I think it's 50/50 at absolute best.

I don't understand how any of us can really make this judgment.

What comes first: Pearl Jam 11 or ASOIAF 7?

That's probably fair. My only support would be that... you know... the last book was 6 years ago. And since then he's stopped and started and missed several deadlines and spends his time blogging about the New York football Giants and travelling around the country and not actually, you know, writing. But, of course, you're correct. I have no idea what he's actually DOING with his time.

PJ11. Easy. And mos likely, 12 & 13, too.

I don't know, I bet 6 and 7 come out in somewhat quick succession, and I think book 6 is coming next spring.

ASOIAF will be released long before PJ13, even if Brandon Sanderson must be the one to do it.

GRRM already said he won't allow anyone to finish it up him. If he dies... it's over.

I believe in GRRM, but I have a hard time seeing ASOIAF never being finished. He has written chapters from the last book already, he has told the ending to the tv people and others, he has outlined it. Should the worst happen, I believe it will be finished in some way or form.

People were just talking about Cersei quite a bit in the show thread, so I thought this was worth posting. I don't think it can be openly shared there since the valonqar stuff was cut out of the show, perhaps to keep her final fate more of a surpirse.

I agree. It will be finished on HBO.

So re-watching the end of Season 6, I'm wondering if the show is going to be able to / is going to want to try and fit in any of the machinations of what's been called the "Grand Maester Conspiracy." The fact that Sam is told that he'll have to talk to the Arch Maester in the SE06 finale really sounded ominous. Couple this with the fact that the library contained those big compass-like thingies that appear in the show's opening credits, and there seems to be something afoot. The Lanisters and Euron Greyjoy seem like they'll be a big issue for Dany's forces as they come into Westeros, but it couldn't hurt to add another dimension and obstacle for them to overcome, like some magic-hating maesters who want to get rid of the dragons.

Yeah it does seem like the show is heading that way.

You could argue that it's too late, but Euron is a very recent addition and seems like he'll have a big role in the end game.

Sure fire proof that he'll die tomorrow.

Pretty lame that the big scoop Sam learned was there's obsidian on Dragonstone.

chud you were talking telegraphing in the Jon/Sansa scene; you think he's gonna try and marry Alys Karstark to a wildling and that will create a bigger rift between him and Sansa?
