Yeah, comatose live is really good, and i don't really care about the lyrics for it because you usually can't understand ed live anyway

Listening again this morning has me changing from "it's okay" to " like it". I don't care for this style as much, but this is a solid track. The bridge is growing on me.

They are more abstract but the comatose lyrics are sharper. Comatose is a really well written song. I am much more impressed with the writing there than I am with mym (which is fine, but not remarkable--although I should withhold judgement until we actually have the lyrics)

Comatose has some really lazy or uninteresting lines in it. Unfortunately, they feel too disconnected from the great moments to benefit from them, and are also the most repeated lines in the song.

"Blood on all the pistons running my transmission" is a fantastic line, especially in that musical context.

Liked it from the start and now after about 15 listens, it's better than I thought.

It's a really really good song.

I think it's going to be on an amazing album personally. I might be the only one but with this song and the title of the album and the serious look on the faces of the guys in the photo they released.... I just feel something here that makes me think it's going to be special. Who knew a photo release could add to my excitment of an album. Very weird.

The chorus is pretty lazy...

Besides that it's a pretty good song, considering those types of songs can be hard to write great lyrics to.

definitely the weakest part of the song. I am fine with it because i like how it sounds sung, I think comatose is a great word in the context of the song, and I like the rising/falling imagery, especially in a song about being self-righteously blind to your on failings.

I've never had a good feeling about the Comatose lyrics. Great music and performance though.

It's less the content than the lyrics themselves that feel uninspired. Comatose has a great idea in it, no doubt.

Same. I'm also not liking the MYM lyrics too much either, particularly the bridge. The song goes so fast however, that it doesn't really bother me too much.

the bridge lyrics are probably my favorite part of the writing, but maybe because i like the bridge the best. I hardly have these memorized, though, so I might be wrong

i fuckin love this song. i hope the rest of the album lives up to this, unlike BS and Got Some.

I'm still at the "It's OK" vote stage and will likely remain firm there at 3/5 stars. Again, this feels like Backspacer with more meat on the bone, which is a good thing.

The song did not produce any goosebump moments for me, but perhaps a few others on the new record will. Come to think, the last goosebumps I had for a first single was probably I am Mine, and I think Riot Act is one of their worst records....

One part I am struggling with is this new outro that replicates the call/response outro of Ole. I want to get on board with this, but just can't. I don't know why that it is.

I do dig this part:

Regarding the religious stuff, because I'm Catholic and do believe in God, I choose to interpret this line as a positive...more like a man just looking to connect with God or a spiritual being for explanation:

i caught myself believing
that i needed god
and if it's out there somewhere
we sure could use it now

I do like the lyrics in this, but I'll admit I may be judging them on a curve. Eddie hasn't really been hitting lyrics out of the park, particularly on the last record, and I like seeing some ambition back. There are some lines that sound a little 'eh', but there are others that sound great and I think Ed in general is better when he's aiming big.

The only part I don't like is the 'mind your manners' bit, which sounds kind of shoehorned in there, like Ed was worried he was going to lose people if there wasn't some pithy chorus that came up quickly.
