For fans of irony: the Chiefs proposed to change the rule after their 2019 AFCCG loss to the Patriots. The change would have guaranteed both teams at least one possession.

The Bills voted against the change.
:haha:

At least the Bucs have cap space, yeah?

The Packers are like 45 mil over the cap, need to resign a bunch of key guys (led by Davante Adams), and Qaaron’s already said he doesn’t want to participate in a rebuild. No idea how they figure that out.

Why not adopt rules that are a blend of the college and pro OT rules for playoff games?

- Each team gets a possession with a normal starting kickoff and kickoff if the first team scores.
- If tied after the first possessions, it goes to another round of alternating possessions with kickoffs if necessary.
- Can only go for touchdowns in the second round of possessions. Must also attempt 2 point conversions.
- Repeat until one team scores and the other cannot match it.

If I understand correctly, the Bucs have about 20M in cap space if Brady returns but will need to resign or replace Godwin, Fournette, Jones, Gronk, Suh, Pierre-Paul, Jensen, and a handful of other guys. They're also probably losing at least one if not both of their coordinators. Do-able for a championship run if you've got your elite QB returning, and I think the Bucs have been smart with their drafting and their ability to pick up undervalued guys who can contribute. But if he goes and you have Blaine Gabbert running the ship you're right back to rebuild (though they'd suddenly have another 20M in cap space I guess). Will be an interesting off-season for sure.

Just do as the NHL does and tack on an extra quarter for playoff games. If you really want to take the coin flip out of it, make it two quarters with a kickoff at the start of each. This possession-by-possession thing is basically a shootout.

I don't think that works as well for football because the time constraint can still be manipulated for an advantage (especially in the coin flip scenario). It's not really a shootout since teams still have to go the whole length of the field to score.

Certainly open to all ideas, but we all know the NFL is never going to adopt them.

I was thinking about Dilfer the other day and QBs who have won a Super Bowl (or two) but aren't HoFer's or even considered great. From recent memory, the only ones I can think of are:

Trent Dilfer
Joe Flacco
Brad Johnson
Nick Foles
Jeff Hostettler

Should Eli be added to that list? Was he ever a top 10 QB in a given season?

Good list. The last two probably need asteriks, considering they were mid season injury replacements?

Hmm. Rypien yes. I know Williams isn't in the HoF, but people generally consider him to have been pretty great, yeah?
