Can’t believe you have Jimmy and he plays these songs. Also worst drum sound of all SP albums maybe?

First impression : not good. Feels like a better mixed Monuments…but that one had better melodies.
Billy’s voice too upfront in the mix again. Guitars sound ok.
The last song on this one is one of the worst songs Billy did in a while for sure.
Not sure if Jimmy is really playing his drums really doesn’t sound like him at all. And the drum sound is awful. Sounds like an electric preset drum.

Cyr and Atum were more interesting.

Shit Cherub rock appears after the last song and now it’s an even bitter taste

you and i must have waaay different tastes. atum is irredeemable. i just can't believe people can sit through that. i'd posit this record is their most solid album since the hiatus. that's not saying much, but i'd given up on them ever putting out a full album i might actually like. this new one is still negatively affected by the things that have soiled most of the sp records this century (bad mix/compression, billy's forward vocals, awful synths), especially the back half, but at least i'm not cringing every thirty seconds wondering why i still give billy william patrick corgan's new music an ear. i can actually sit through this one - it's nice it's only 44 minutes - and i enjoy several tracks.

Best since Machina you mean? No way, specially after just a first listen. Zeitgeist is so much better than this one for sure.

So far it feels and sounds like a subpar Monuments to me. And both Cyr and Atum had more stuff going on even they are bloated and too long.

I’ll listen to it again later to see if something more clicks; I did liked the first song.

totally in agreement with vg here.
First song is ok but then after this isn't very captivating, and why does he keep singing like this? can't he mix it a little bit more? his voice has never been his forte but it's such a turnoff now, and always upfront on top of that.
some good guitars and drums of course but it's atum level of production quality, not for me.

i kinda like the bass is way more noticeable in this mix, there is some groove actually. But yeah, Billy´s voice again way too upfront. I think the last time i kinda liked how his voice was mixed was in Shiny.

He sounds awesome in Marchin On.

Some cool instrumentation
Vocals too forward (of course)
Bad drum sound (why?)

11/10

Kind of disrespectful how they started shredding the moment Jeff "Shredder" Schroeder left the band.

Genuinely don't understand this take, Veggie. The song is nice.

Smashing Pumpkins with yet another "back 2 rawkin" :bammer: record that now sounds like them doing stoner metal mostly. Like Pearl Jam, their new stuff is mediocre, and by saying its their best shit in over a decade, it's hardly a compliment or indicative of quality either.

I actually liked parts of it at least I guess. More than I can say compared to Cyr or No Shiny Sun or Monuments to an Elegy or whatever crap they've put out since Iha and Jimmy came back and barely used their talents.

Cool how they're riffing out again, but Billy still thinks he has to be front-and-centre (thematically and sonically) so yeah this is a dud. I will probably salvage one or two songs for a post-2000 playlist, but I'm not going to be rushing back to this album.

It's not as shit as the haters may think though, I'll give it that.
