It's true.

The problem with Abram's Star Trek is he doesn't fucking like Star Trek. It's like when Fox had a guy who didn't like superheroes running the FF and X-Men movies.

Right. He basically turned it into a bad Star Wars knock-off. So hopefully he'll do an okay job actually making a Star Wars movie.

Neither of the Trek movies were like Star Wars AT ALL, but SW has had that sort of pacing and would suit that sort of pacing in the new ones, if nothing else..

That's virtually every action film, though. Are all action films Star Wars?

Star Wars is much more of a Western than anything else.

Yeah, that's a good point - saying it's Star Wars is kind of reductive; what it really is just a standard action film, as you pointed out. And that is sooooooooo not what Star Trek is supposed to be about.

Sure. I didn't mind as much because it happened to be (I thought) I really well made action flick. And the whole "reboot" nature of the thing made it quite clever. It was the first true "reboot" or "revision" of a franchise that just worked.

But, you're right, it deviated a bit from the thing that most people label as Star Trek.

Yeah, the gravity and scope of the rebooting, and even the way it was handled, were actually pretty bold. They were not remotely the problem with the movie.

Hmm, I dunno if that's bold. I mean, there was a lot of gravity in The Wrath of Khan, and I'm not sure I'd say they had any larger scope than First Contact. Or even Nemesis, really.
