I know that. I don’t remember Ed specifically mentioning them as an influence, tho.
He did induct them into the hall of fame
From what I gather from the induction, he didn't know a whole lot about them and he said he drove from Seattle to LA and listened to the Doors the whole way. He was impressed that in just 6 years they made as many good songs as they did. IIRC, there also was a '96 Paris show where he talked about visiting Morrison's grave, then the band went into an improv version of "Roadhouse Blues".

In short, I don't think The Doors were a huge influence on the band, but maybe more indirectly. Meaning artist they liked were influenced by them. I remember people saying the "Alive" solo had elements of "Five To One" in it, but Mike says that was from a Kiss song, and Ace Frehley said he lifted it from Robby Krieger, so that is a case of an indirect influence.

I feel like the Doors / PJ thing was thrusted upon them by the media, and was centered around EV being some modern Jim Morrison. Felt like something that was started in a Teen Beat magazine.

Could be - definitely more of an EV -> Jim Morrison thing than a PJ ->Doors connection

I watched the speeches and performance again tonight. Two things I really enjoyed were that Alive with Krusen and how much louder the applause was for Mike more than anyone else. Fuck you guys, Mike is a cool motherfucker.

I see Mrs B is pointing to the Bon Jovi plaque. Mrs Wease would be doing the same thing. :(
