Well that is true. I also go by Poo-poo head and Buttcrack depending on which child of mine you ask

IMO, SP had more color and shades of nuance in their songwriting, more ambition, and probably even more technical skill than any of these other bands. They had arguably the best drummer and best guitarist in this line-up. Billy may have a peculiar voice, but he employed it to dramatic effect and was writing shit that would've exploded Vedder's brain. They took the best things about the shoegaze and noise movements and molded it into a set of songs that were aggressive, powerful, heartfelt and often catchy as hell, firmly rooted in the pop realm while also stretching its conventions. I think Siamese Dream and Melon Collie are untouchable, and the best albums in this entire tournament.

Meanwhile, the band that has suffered the most for me in this tourney is Nirvana (I never really liked STP or AIC). So many of their songs are just so goddamn repetitive. It's nuts.

Re: The SP love, none of these bands fell off as soon and as hard as SP did with Adore (IMO, I know most would say Machina was the first bad one, I just find Adore boring). If Cornell was putting crap like Carry On and Audioslave records as Soundgarden, then you could make the argument that Smashing Pumpkins were a far superior band. But with stuff like Monuments to an Elegy and Zeitgeist under Bi Corg's belt, no fucking way Smashing Pumpkins were better than Soundgarden. But that's just my 2 cents on the matter.

Nirvana is the most punk-like band, so the repetition doesn't bother me much.

Adore and Machina are really good. Everything after that is mostly garbage, yeah.

Adore and MACHINA are my two favorite SP albums.

Yeah, I'm kinda thinking the same. I still like PJ and STP more personally, but in terms of composition, musicianship, sonic texture, etc., SP is on another level.

Billy Corgan's voice will never be for everyone. Which is a shame. It took me a long time to get into it.

Drown is my vote. The Day I Tried to Live is good, but Drown is amazing.

Yeah I don't think you can judge them the same way. It's all about raw emotion, and Kurt's voice.

And I just really like AiC songs a lot.

SG has always felt a bit stiff and professional to me. I enjoy many of their songs, but they are a distant 5th. TDITTL is one of their best, but it wouldn't make the top 20 of my favorite songs in this tourney.
