I guess I'm one of the few that wasn't wowed by this song. Maybe its the lack of instrumentation.

Not wowed, just like it more than some of his more recent solo stuff.

It's a decent, delicately interesting moment after nearly a decade of zero worth (and to be fair, almost zero output).
If they wowed me with anything at this point, I might poop in not a toilet or something...such would be my surprise.

I'm even more optimistic. Maybe because it's a long song. Maybe because it doesn't feel rushed and has time to just lay there. Maybe it's because he's not playing the fucking guitar. He's singing and it doesn't feel like a struggle.
Man, if - ugh - I don't even want to get my hopes up, but imagine if the next record is daring, new, different, experimental, even feels unfinished or not polished....mmmmm Man, I just want them to so badly take a hard left turn and I wouldn't kill them if it was a disaster. Just try.

The increasing use of the pump organ (and sometimes piano) is huge, to my mind. He's been stuck in Into The Wild mode from a songwriting perspective for the last 10 years. It's time to move on and this is a step in the right direction.

You're not missing anything. It seems more like a "moment" as McP wrote. Probably originally arranged on an acoustic, but improvised on the pump organ for the concert to naturally segue into the Fugazi cover that finishes the song.
