Just watched through 9, 10 and now up to 11. 11 is where things started going a little down hill, IMO. But still pretty great.

my favorite sequence:

"Is it Batman?"

"No, it's a scientist."

"Batman's a scientist"

Two Talking Heads references in Homer Goes To College. David Byrne is on Lisa's list of accomplished nerds and the Itchy & Scratchy episode is called Burning Down The Mouse.

Ah, Last Exit to Springfield. This is the episode that tends to get mentioned the most in terms of fans' favorite episodes.

Personally, Bart Gets an Elephant is my favorite. As someone mentioned, seasons 3 - 9 are the best, but this one always makes me laugh the most.

I just recently started watching the new episodes, and honestly, I think anyone who says the Simpsons suck now is not watching. It has been on target and really funny. Night and day compared to seasons 15 - 20ish.

Any particular episodes you'd recommend?

As far as I'm concerned, seasons 3-9 are some of the best comedy in the history of television. I haven't seen a new episode in ages.
This. It stayed decent into the early aughts but then fell off the map completely. Season 12 had A Tale Of Two Springfields which I consider the last really great Simpsons episode.
Watching this one now.

Because of you we're all taking golden showers !!

The boy band episode from Season 12 is another really great one too, imo.

It was ok but not nearly as good as Two Springfields.

From the newer seasons? I honestly wouldn't even be able to give you a name, but every one that I have caught the last couple of seasons has made me laugh. They are back to being clever and not so outlandish.

I haven't been completely bored by the few episodes of Season 12 I've watched recently. Is it me, or is that season funnier than almost everything from season 8 thru 11 (exempting "The Girly Edition," which for whatever reason, is one of my absolute favorite Simpsons episodes?)

I wouldn't say its funnier than almost anything from 8-11. But, I would say it was the last great season of the show.
