This Kansas wheat won't break us
And another drink won't make us free
The oven's wide open, hold your breath and see.
Hold your breath and see . . .

I've always enjoyed how "Heather Angel" closes out A Thousand Leaves. It's one of the more unsettling Sonic Youth songs I've ever heard, which is precisely why I like it punctuating the end of an album that, at times, sounds beatific. Hell, even the song itself starts off as a a lullaby before splitting itself open and pouring out it's chaotic, abrasive cacophony all over the room.

The difference in Mark's lyrics from album 1 to 2 was massive in positivity

Divers as a whole deals with a lot of ideas around time, so it ends with:
Joanna Newsom wrote:White star, white ship–Nightjar, transmit: transcend!
White star, white ship–Nightjar, transmit: transcend!
White star, white ship–Nightjar, transmit: trans-
And then begins:
Joanna Newsom wrote:-sending the first scouts over
Back from the place beyond the dawn:

Eyes frozen wide at what went on

I've always found the link between the last song and first song of an album fascinating. :nice:
