I saw it, but I don't really know what it was about. It was pretty good, but I don't think I'll ever care to see it again

I thought Daniel Day-Lewis retired?

And, wow, I have no interest in that movie.

I dug this movie, but similar to what strat said above, I don't have an immediate desire to see it again. That differs from most of PTA's movies that I love--when the credits hit for TWBB, I just want to start it all over again, every time. I had the unfortunate experience of watching Phantom Thread in 25-minute chunks while feeding babies in the middle of the night--I think if I really immersed myself in it for 2+ hours straight I might be more inclined to praise it highly. Saying "the acting was great" feels like a cheat because everyone knows it is / knew it would be. I think my favorite parts were when the characters let loose--so much of it is so stuffy and tense that when the characters let their guard down (I'm thinking of when they kiss on the street after taking the dress back from the drunk lady, or when they're driving in the car around the time of their first meeting) that it feels so fresh and earned. This is the opposite of how I felt in The Master--my favorite stuff in that was the intense one-on-one stuff, and the wide-open scenes felt like the moving taking a breath for the better scenes. Just an interesting reversal to me.

In retrospect, I think I was wrong here.

Loved this thing. Saw it twice in the theaters (I never do this) and look forward to seeing it again.

The longer I sit with this movie, the more I absolutely fucking loathe it. It's to the point where I'm actually starting to dislike PTA in general because I hate this one movie so much.

Reading over your comment, you know what this movie didn't make me do much of? I didn't feel much of anything while I watched it. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it; I didn't feel sympathetic for any of the characters, I didn't feel anger or disappointment over any of their decisions, I didn't feel relieved at their triumphs or sad at their failings; it was almost an entirely cerebral experience. That's not a great thing, and surprising for a director who made me feel sympathy for fucking Tom Cruise's character in Magnolia.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I'm liking this but confused why hard eight is so high and blood should be first and thread at least close to second
