Yeah, I'm a super slow reader. That's the biggest hurdle for me. I'm also not super smart. So...

that was the point of all that reading. If I could think of that shit on my own I wouldn't need the books!

OK, a parsing error on my part. I meant that I on several different days I read one of their books all the way through. Realize that this was, again, back in high school and I didn't have to have a good nights sleep so I would stay up until midnight.durdencommatyler wrote:Several Stephen King books in a day?! Wow.bune wrote:Eh, everyone reads differently. I remember in high school I was on a Dean Koontz / Stephen King kick and I read several of their books in a day. Phantoms comes to mind, also the Dark Tower books.
Speaking of DT, I read a version of it that I haven't been able to find anywhere so at this point I'm pretty sure it was a fever dream that mixed Gunslinger with another book that was much more graphic.

Gee I read Under The Dome over a weekend and thought I was the boss. I have much to learn. I guess my punishment for not being in the same league as Bune and Stip is I had to read Under The Dome over a weekend.

Yeesh, that was a terrible book. Well, it was great until the reveal which made it retroactively terrible and I hated everyone in the book.

I like Harlan Ellison better when he writes about writing science fiction rather than when he's actually writing a science fiction story. He's an old fashioned scifi writer which i guess isn't a bad thing but i don't appreciate the style much. That said "Angry Candy" has some good short stories in it

I've only read "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" before and that was pretty trippy as well.

So, do I come here and post every time I finish a book or a movie, or do I keep track of them and come here once I've done my 50/50?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

do berenstain bears count toward this
All posts by this account, even those referencing real things, are entirely fictional and are for entertainment purposes only; i.e. very low-quality entertainment. These may contain coarse language and due to their content should not be viewed by anyone

It's Berenstein. You were obviously born after the glitch.96583UP wrote:do berenstain bears count toward this
But yes, those books are harder to read than any adult novel. Franklin the turtle too. Those count as double books.

Re: 2018 50/50 Challenge - 50 Books & 50 Movies in One Year
There is zero chance that I'll read 50 books this year. But I'll go ahead and try to keep track of the books I do read here. I might get to 50 movies. But probably not. We'll see.
Books: 1/50: Ernest Hemingway on Writing
Movies: 1/50: The Last Jedi

I don't think it matters to anyone but yourself. The other board I've seen this had so many people that they limited posts to once a month for updates. That's kind of boring.B wrote:So, do I come here and post every time I finish a book or a movie, or do I keep track of them and come here once I've done my 50/50?

Movie number one:
Whip it
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1172233/
Really enjoyed it, the cast was pretty diverse and i think that helped the character chemistry. The storyline was better than i expected it to be too, made me glad to stumble on it flipping channels around last night. Reminded me of some of the better indie movies i used to actively seek out when i was in my 20s.
Also liked the music

50 movies is easy. 50 books is worse, but easier if you count graphic novels. In a good year I read 40 novels, last year only 20.

I don't remember much about Whip It but I do recall enjoying it.
