The studio version of Sometimes comes to mind also, though it's the opposite of an aggressive opening. I didn't hear PJ's 90s work until later, but I listened in sequence, and hearing that whispery, tentative quality to Eddie's voice was very surprising compared to how he sounded on the first records, even on the quiet songs.
