I saw JEW in 2001 opening for Weezer. I thought they were absolutely fantastic and immediately went out and bought "Clarity" and "Bleed American." I listened to both for a while and latched on to a few songs ("Blister" and "Authority Song" were my favorites), but in the end it didn't stick. I'll definitely grant that they function on a higher level of musicianship than most of their emo peers, but these days they still seem like they have more rather than less in common with them.
Easy vote over Taking Back Sunday, though.

Around that time I was desperately searching for some good music on radio or TV, and the only thing that didn't disgust me was Jimmy Eat World. From what I remember, I didn't like their other albums, so they didn't stick.

This is my favorite JEW song. 4:45 - 5:30 is great.

Goodbye Sky Harbor is my favorite of theirs, then Disintegration (not a Cure cover, but also 8 minutes long)

Bleed American is a solid pop-rock record. It's the only Jimmy Eat World album I've ever listened to, but I like it because of its poppiness. Funnily, "Authority Song" is one of my least-favorite tracks on there; I like "If You Don't Don't" and "Your House" the best.

I've always loved their cover of The Wedding Present's "Spangle"
