It's pretty crazy that consoles are taking this long to switch to SSDs.

This all sounds like pretty good news. If the backwards compatibility is for both digital and physical games, I will definitely consider selling my PS4 Pro early in the PS5's lifespan to help offset the cost of a new system.

What was the cost of a 500 gb SSD in 2013? To make that work and still fall in the 399.99 price point?

SanDisk, ADATA and others were already making $125 to $150 1TB SSDs for consumers at that point.

WD was making a 1TB hybrid drive for like $79.

Damn how did I miss this today, thanks for posting! the SSD is GREAT news as is the compatibility and 8K output. I seriously hope they can get us more than 1TB of space though. With the way games sizes are increasing, I don't think they have any choice up to start making 2-3TB standard, unless they start pushing harder on the externals

Sounds about right. It won't surprise me if games cost 65 or 70 bucks a pop either in the new generation.
