At another gas station I sometimes stop at, every employee is either chronically obese or rail thin and look like they're meth addicts. They are terrible. Sometimes, when I'm trying to check-out, they will be deep in some really stupid conversation with each other and completely ignoring me as I'm trying to ask for a bag or whatever. They never apologize in any meaningful way. Some of them try to strike up a conversation with me or make a joke that isn't funny when I'm obviously in a hurry and not in the mood for bad jokes or conversations. I'm sorry you hate your job, leave me alone so I can get on with my day.

The lighting is practically chiaroscuro in comparison to the blisteringly bright supermarkets, and the customers are peaceful yet purpose-driven, as if they have somewhere to be.
I can hear the heart of that line beating as one.

Bernie's.
Family owned, everyone knows everyone. Assorted groceries and sundries. You can get subs there too. They make a mean steak bomb and still have "freedom fries" on the menu board.

They yell 'good morning' like they don't give a shit in this loud obnoxious tone and they could care less if you reply, they dont' try to make eye contact or anything. They do it cause they're supposed to. Also, when you check out, they always say, in the same obnoxious, don't give a shit tone, 'GOT WHATCHOO NEED?!' ... I don't reply to this, either, sometimes. When I do I just kinda nod or say "yup" under my breath. It's so stupid. Then as you're leaving they say 'don't forget your points!'... I shake my head slowly as I sigh and am so relieved to be leaving every time.
missouri sounds horrible

Here’s mine, run by “the lady.”
And the taco truck in the parking lot.

That central pet market on the sign recently turned into a banh mi and smoothie shop.

I saw an off-brand 7-11 the other day while hunting for houses. The word “eleven” had been replaced with “seas.” I added that to the list of pros for living in that zip code.

We have a good one nearby that fills growlers and has a Subway attached ... but I see these more as inconvenience stores honestly because:
1) The prices for similar items tend to be higher than grocery stores ... candy bar, bottled water, you name it
2) The selection is small and I am frustrated that I can’t get more of what is on my list
So I shop at the grocery store because it significantly more convenient.

Not proud to say I just lost my temper at the local convenience store. I wanted to buy a $2 item, but the usual lady wasn’t there and her nephew was watching the store. They have a $5 minimum policy for cards, which she usually waived for regulars. This nephew was not budging, however, and I got annoyed. It wasn’t his fault. Now I feel a little sick. I wish I had been nicer to him.

I know I was. Buying more items only led to me getting more upset. I thought I’d double up on the $2 item at first and $4 would be a good faith effort towards honoring the policy, but he wouldn’t budge, so I grabbed a piece of chocolate at the counter that only got me to $4.65, and he still said no. That’s when I got huffy.

I ended up raking the car floor boards for a dollar in quarters and a Sacajawea coin. I was really going to lose it if he didn’t want to honor that coin.
