It's good that they did. The MCU Spider-Man movies have been really bad. However, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was really good.

It definitely matters. Sony made 2 great movies and then interfered with 3 more live action movies resulting in total shit. They got lucky with Spider-Verse. The MCU ones, though mildly flawed, are WAY better than S3, AS, and AS2, leagues better.
Not to mention, Spider-Man's presence in Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame was totally enjoyable and benefited those movies.
