But also, and I mean this as a very minor critique, between Dead Cross, Mr. Bungle's new-old thrash metal release, and the new Tomahawk song I already heard, all of Patton's projects are starting to sound a bit samey. Like you could have told me "Dog Eat Dog" was Mr. Bungle or Dead Cross and I would have believed it.
Indeed, I got this sense as well.

I don't think he was too satisfied with that performance, so same spot in the setlist (show ender) we get this next:
Been listening to a ton of Patton stuff the last week, thanks for gettin' it started.

Yeah nice. I'm still obsessed with California, and have a lot more to explore.

I'm very new to Mr. Bungle but have to say that Pink Cigarette is an A++ song.

I introduced my buddies to Bungle with Pink Cigarette after our jam and I think they're on board. I just love Patton so much.

The Avett Brothers & Mike Patton Announce Collaborative Album AVTT/PTTN
The Avett Brothers teamed with Mike Patton on a joint new album, AVTT/PTTN, which will arrive on November 14 via Thirty Tigers in association with Ramseur Records and Ipecac Recordings. Brothers Scott Avett and Seth Avett previewed their unexpected collaboration with the Faith No More/Mr. Bungle frontman through the lead single, “Eternal Love.”
Patton, Scott Avett and engineer Dana Nielsen co-produced AVTT/PTTN. The nine-track effort includes new original songs co-written by Patton and the Avetts, along with their interpretation of “The Ox Driver’s Song.”
“Mike’s part of our DNA, like the fabric of our youth,” Scott Avett stated. “Literally, we studied him. He’s a dear friend now, but when we were younger, I was imitating him.”
“My peculiar challenge in this was to become a long distant cousin,” Patton revealed. “A brother that was orphaned. Maybe they kept him in the chicken coop or some shit. They brought him out years and years later.”
The new songs were created from ideas generated by Scott Avett, with Patton reconfiguring the initial concepts before they finally took shape through Seth Avett’s solidifying arrangements.
“This is what art is,” Scott Avett added. “This is what making is supposed to be: in secret and with no ambition.”
01 Dark Night of My Soul
02 To Be Known
03 Heaven’s Breath
04 Too Awesome
05 Disappearing
06 Eternal Love
07 The Ox Driver’s Song
08 The Things I Do
09 Received

The collaboration:
Avett after finishing the song: “It’s it!”
Patton: “What is it?”

They were the band on the main stage before Pearl Jam at Sea Hear Now in 2021. They were very good live, though I never translated it to listening to their albums.

Talk about head(s) full of doubt...
Definitely a genre I feel Patton only toyed with over the years, from the single anyway. I'm just glad to motherfucker isn't a total shut-in and making music.

I actually quite like the single. I can definitely hear elements of Mondo Cane (still my favorite Patton album) and FNM's "Take This Bottle". Plenty of little Pattonisms to be heard in musical flourishes throughout the song.

I thought of Take This Bottle as well.
I adore Mondo Cane and wish they would release 2019-09-02 in full.
