Trumpet / Jazz influence is a positive. Someone who wants to be able to hear details from instruments other than just loud mush. hopefully

JOSH EVANS | BIOGRAPHY

JOSH EVANS, born and raised in Hartford, CT, was drawn to the trumpet after hearing a Roy Eldridge and Dizzy Gillespie recording at the age of 10. Josh began studying with Raymond ‘Dr. Rackle’ Williams and within a year he began performing regularly with Dr. Rackle’s Sound Griot Brass Band. By the age of 14 Evans’ musical career began to take shape when he started to study with and be mentored by the celebrated alto saxophonist/composer, and educator Jackie McLean. Studying under McLean who shared the bandstand with Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, and Art Blakey, would be pivotal in Josh's career. The experience would blaze the path for performances with Jackie McLean which included New York based venues known as the Blue Note, Iridium, the Regattabar located in Boston, MA, and the Bushnell Center for Performing Arts in Hartford, CT.

In April 2005 Josh began a Three and a half year stint with the Winard Harper Sextet, touring the United States performing and conducting master classes. The group personnel, at different points, consisted of Billy Taylor, Frank Wess and George Cables, as well as trumpet players Terrell Stafford, Claudio Roditi and Phillip Harper. The group would also record a wonderful album in 2006, entitled ‘Make it Happen’ for Piadrum Records. In April 2007, Josh was invited to perform a two week tour of Siberia with master saxophonist, and composer Benny Golson. It was during this time period that Evans would also start performing with master Drummer Rashied Ali and would become the bands trumpet player for the next two years. The Rashied Ali Quintet toured 18 different countries and recorded one CD Live in Europe. Josh Evans would play with Rashied Ali until the drummer’s untimely death in 2009. In January 2011, Josh Evans recorded and released his debut album ‘Portrait’. This Album shares Evans influential relationships with Rasieid Ali, Jackie McLean, Raymond Williams, Alan Palmer, and Ralph Peterson.

Now my PI is saying he was also in the NFL for a stint... I'm beginning to think he's a bad PI...
Evans played collegiately at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama with whom he was a four-year starter. Evans was signed as an undrafted free agent in 1995 by the Houston Oilers and stayed with them during the franchise's move to Tennessee. In 1999, the Titans made it to Super Bowl XXXIV in which Evans started. However, they lost to the Kurt Warner-led St. Louis Rams. In 2000, Evans served a one-year suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. In 2002, Evans signed to play with the New York Jets with whom he spent the last three seasons of his NFL career.

I don't think Josh Evans the recording engineer and Josh Evans the jazz trumpeter are the same person. The trumpet player is based out of NYC and has a different website than the one that's been posted for the engineer.

https://joshevansmusic.com/ is the website for the jazz guy.
https://ricecrackermusic.com/ is the engineer.

Yeah, that man does not look 55 unless he’s on Paul Rudd’s skin regimen.

It is a shame that with all of this excitement surrounding a new album and new producer, we have to sort through bullshit posts in these threads. Really takes away from the time I could be thinking up new puns.

They can go record with a producer whenever they can. On their own terms, Im pretty sure that's not possible with a producer like BO'B. BO'B is always busy, I wouldnt be suprised that he was also booked for possible albums for AC/DC, Guns n Roses or RATM.
I'm pretty sure it's been suggested before that O'Brien strongly prefers to work out of his preferred studios (in LA or wherever) and won't come to Seattle, so that's probably a factor if the band wanted a more relaxed schedule where they could work closer to home at their own speed.
Exactly. Pearl Jam made a decision to convenience themselves, not challenge themselves.

I wouldn't say they were challenging themselves working out of LA and Miami (or wherever it was) with Brendan either.

They recorded Binaural, Riot Act and S/T in Seattle in much the same way as it seems they did here.

True. But they did have a couple of sessions with BO'B. Im wondering if their choice to break with him only comes from the decision to convenience themselves in Seattle with a producer who will not be hard on them (likely).

But I do like the fact that they have their own recording studio in Seattle (does Litho still exist btw?) and that they have a dedicated producer all for themselves. Who knows, maybe we can expect records at a slightly faster pace from now on
