An original script by Cormac.
Fact: Cormac McCarthy first wrote No Country For Old Men as a screenplay, but it was rejected by Hollywood because it didn't follow the rules of a traditional script. So he wrote the novel instead, and the Coens wrote the script nearly word for word, action for action, and it won Best Adapted Screenplay at Oscars. Ethan Coen went up to Cormac during the ceremony and said, "I don't know what I did to win this, but I'll take it."
And if you read the Counselor script, it's pretty non-traditional. Even the formatting is all wrong. Dialogue goes on forever. It breaks all the rules they teach you in classes. And that's why Cormac is awesome.

Oh I can see why that could be irrationally hated. I find it amusing. But then I'm a fan of manufactured joviality.

I'd only wear a fedora if Jack White told me to.

I don't think this one is going to do well critically.

i'm sorry if that disappoints you. but, it's only a hunch, and means nothing.
the fact is, the only project adapted from mccarthy that's been terrific is No Country. the success of that film is on the coens, not the source text. mccarthy has no track record of writing great scripts. ridley scott, on the other hand, does have a track record. unfortunately it's one that i have even less faith in.

I love the script because it reads like one of his books, or at least his characters do. But yeah to fully execute it is a different story.

I love the cast, and the fact that Cormac is involved. But the trailer does nothing for me.

I tend to agree. If I hadn't read the script I'd have next to zero interest in this thing. I keep telling my wife it has tremendous potential and that the scripted version is so fucked up, this thing could be one of those movies that just hangs with you for a long, long time.
She doesn't believe me.
