I predict a few more years of going moony-eyed over Colorado sunsets and these songs will all be in your top five.
Oh no

It might be the best song on the first three albums.

This a really beautiful song. For some reason, its not one of those i need to hear...but when it comes its unexpected and very welcome.

I wonder why Stone started playing this on acoustic. That electric rhythm on the album gives the song this ethereal sense of space that the acoustic just doesn't rival.

100%
the electric really gives it some lift.

Yes. A thousand times, yes.

I don't know about that. When I've seen it live it's been great. The whole crowd singing along really makes it feel pretty powerful, especially the "into the sun" part.

I've grown numb to this song over the years, but then it hit me like a ton of bricks at the end of that one episode of Californication.

Kinda "too-studio polished" on the vocals, don't you think?

Yeah I have zero complaints about this as a recording.

Man, not at all. Ed captures a fragility that he's been fruitlessly chasing ever since.
Not even on the "into the sun" part, huh? I may have to revisit this recording since I have a high opinion of chud's ears and your perspective.

Alright, alright, I listened. You guys are right. This is a fantastic recording. The way the bass swells along with Ed's voice on the verses might have colored my opinion on what I was calling over-production, but as I listen a second time, I can appreciate how the two work together to color this song with feeling. I don't think I've ever noticed how well Dave's jazzy brush strokes work on this song.
Thanks, guys.

I wish I'd edited one of the two uses of the word "color" in my post before you quoted me. Some words when spoken can't be taken back, indeed.

I don’t think Ed has ever sounded better on any song I can think of than when he goes big on ‘into the sun’ in this towards the end.
It’s just beautiful.
