In all fairness, I saw them 4 times, once in 1997 headlining (great show), 2000 opening for RHCP, 2011 headlining, and 2012 at Global Citizens. They put on an excellent live show, though it seems to be a little too hammy now. That being said, I don’t find I have ever felt a strong connection to their albums, other than to say I listened to the debut, The Colour and the Shape, and Wasting Light on repeat for short periods of time.

I've not heard a complete Foo Fighters album beyond those first two, which are both great.

No Foo Fighters album is excellent, great, or a classic. They are all just middle of the road good rockets.

Except the first two. Those are both top to bottom great.

Agree to disagree here. I've never once gone back to revisit anything Foo Fighters. I never seek them out, and they aren't part of my Spotify.

So you think they aren't mediocre? What is your stance?

I think I just hate talking about music. It's such a pointless thing to talk about and 99% percent of posts about music are "I like this" or "I don't like it".

I like the first two Foo Fighters albums a lot -- I think they're above average records for their genre and time period. Certainly not capital-G great records (though for me the first one flirts with lower-case-g great), but better than mediocre.

Can you elaborate on your two designations of Great and great?

I read Burt's post as basically saying that conversations about music tend to be used as taste signifiers for people and yield nothing much beyond vanity statements.
