Artists who were on a roll and then shat the bed

Ryan Adams was untouchable through Easy Tiger then made some pretty average records and was metoo'd

Honestly, I kinda agree. My Own Prison wasn't a great album in the grand scheme of things, but it's a pretty decent post-grunge record. The band could play well and Stapp and Tremonti wrote some decent songs (though the lyrics aren't anything to write home about). Then Human Clay just nosedived. Outside of maybe the first couple songs, it's a midtempo slog with some examples of truly atrocious lyrics, and album 3 is no better. Has anybody ever even listened to the 4th abomination?

The first album was really good and they had several other really good songs until With Arms Wide Open took over the god damn world.

No, never heard their fourth album.

You might want to revisit the post-80s ABB discog, there is a lot of good stuff on those four albums.

Incubus is a good one. Although my ex wife loved them so I tend to think they suck at everything.

Having seen him live solo and with MMJ in the past couple of years, have to disagree big time with this assessment. He’s not a conventional singer, and kind of sounds like Kermit singing from the other end of the Lincoln Tunnel, he can still get there, and his voice has a lot of character. The Order of Nature has some pretty good moments on it for his voice.

For me at least, Pearl Jam nosediving I think is reaching a bit. Backspacer/Lightning Bolt is no Spaghetti Incident, even though folks here like to make believe that’s the case. They are good albums that happen to be juxtaposed against 8 great records. It’s like saying Neil Young belongs on this list because Silver & Gold and Ragged Glory don’t match up to After the Goldrush and Rust Never Sleeps.

I mostly just hate how fucking weird he's gotten.

Last two shows at Red Rocks were really bad. The altitude and drugs were impacting him quite significantly. He spent most of the show talking about the womb.

LA, Veganism, and drugs have done a number on him.

honestly the only album of theirs I really dislike is "If Not Now, When?" but it's unfathomably bad

I'm not sure I've ever been especially excited by their music either, but I'm with you. I've really tried with MMJ (I've had a few of their albums, and have seen them live), but I can't get past Jim James -- he just comes across as such an airhead to me, completely poisoning any hope I have of enjoying their music. It's not surprising to me that they've found such favor with the jam band crowd.

Sleater-Kinney. I don't think in retrospect that 'The Center Won't hold' will be looked back on fondly. The Woods it is not.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

This is true -- something that was in the air at that time, I guess. That said, I enjoy the Shins and Band of Horses, but MMJ just registers with me in a totally different way. Mercer at the very least has melodic senses that far, far exceed anything I've ever heard from MMJ.
