It's actually pretty subdued and smooth for the most part, the big belting doesn't start until the final chorus and it is a steady rise in intensity to that point. And even then it resolves so fucking nicely with those upwards glissandos at the very end, a masterstroke.

Her tone is insane and her control is so precise. It's not like the over-the-top Mary J Blige melisma you hear in a lot of r&b
