Looking to migrate north myself next time we move. Can't imagine why anyone with the ability to leave would choose to stay here. Healthcare alone makes a world of difference.

I saw an article that polled people about Covid. In Canada it made us come a little closer as a country and in the US it drove people apart a little bit. I suspect a big part of that is healthcare.
You will choke on your tax bill here. I am maybe top10% income and all the levels of taxation take about 55-60% of my income. Some of that is voluntary, i.e. sales tax.

Yeah I've been to a BC liquor store many times, I'm quite familiar with at least some of those taxes.

What little faith I had left in many of my fellow Americans is gone at this point. I would say I'm waiting for them to die but it seems like they've convinced enough youth that they're right that we'll have to endure at least another generation of this shit.
I already had difficulty planning for the future but now it seems there's genuinely no point, so I live in the moment even more now. Things like having kids seem genuinely pointless, if not outright stupid to me right now.

This all sounds so terribly familiar.
Except the thing about kids. I've always thought that was genuinely pointless and stupid.

Ah yes, the pointless reproduction of living species.

It's probably the one thing that really matters, that has an actual point.

for those immersed in pity party - did you feel the same way when obama was president?
curious whether this is structural or a more recent (last 3-4 years) thing

For those keeping track,, I specifically used the word "more" in my post to cover this very question.

It's obviously a Trump thing. That's the point of the thread.

Weakening of the institutions probably started with the Starr investigations and Clinton impeachment process. I think that created genuine and lasting animosity between the parties. Add to that the increasing use of executive orders to bypass institutional malaise just entrenched the rot. Precedents were set prior to Trump.

It goes much further back than that.

Started was a poor choice of words, started to really accelerate would be more apt.

More apt but still inaccurate. Like so said it all started way before all that.

i found it funny the last time after 8 years of GWB (which also included a stolen election) how quickly all the 'i am moving to canada' talk gave way to 'USA #1 PROGRESSIVE NATION WE HAVE A BLACK PRESIDENT WE RUUUUULE' talk
and it's totally gonna be the same when Biden gets elected
just add the words 'female' and 'vice' to the above

And to be clear, I'm not bagging on y'all for having kids, I just wouldn't feel OK bringing anyone else into this shitshow right now.

Lives in Vail with a townhouse. If you haven't figured out that you are way past the middle then you have to get out more.
