That very last 'hurrdurr' at the end makes the whole thing unlistenable to me, like it's some kind of 'shreds' parody. I agree with Spenno, that things like this are kind of unnecessary for the band to even contemplate changing, and as a fan, I think they lose a great deal of integrity for doing so. It was a sweet gesture at the time, and we all have exes... jeez!

Thankfully, I have good copy of the original if I want to listen to it.

yeah it’s such a bizarre noise they’ve edited in instead. like it’s 2009 ed doing a parody of 1992 ed. also, the “beth”s before it where they’ve removed the “b” and extended the rest of the word to morph it into something that’s technically not the word “beth”. it all seems like a lot of effort to do nothing but draw attention to the fact that his ex wife’s name has been whitewashed from the performance. it’s bizarre and comedic.

it really is terrible

that is a keynote part of the performance

the first few edited beths are survivable

that last one is just off the charts bad and ruins the song

This is the weirdest thread on this message board and that's saying a lot.

what stings the most is it’s probably the best version of oceans ed ever performed.

they also used CGI to change the marker writing on Ed’s arm from ‘Pro-Choice’ to ‘Prime 2-Day Rules’

Did they edit out "Oh, Beth" on the Orpheum release? I feel like this isn't the only instance of this but I can't remember what other examples there are...

I don't really enjoy the Unplugged show so this doesn't really affect me very much. I can certainly understand the emotional impulse to do this, but I also agree that it sounds really awkward. Just don't release the damned thing if it bothers you so much.

Hadn’t listened in years and been enjoying it these last few years. Came to this thread and uh, yeah, I’m out.

I don't think so, however the quality of the audience recording makes the comparison a little more difficult.

They did however remove the 'me and Beth' line in Not For You (which follows 'small my table, sits just two') on the Orpheum release and the Washington DC '98 Vault release.

Edit note: I incorrectly presumed they'd also removed it on the Solder Field Vault release, however it was left untouched.

My feelings too.

Either make peace with the fact that it's a snapshot of particular point in time and let it stand or, if you can't, just let it stay in the past and don't keep re-releasing that same performance again and again.
