Nothing man is also one of those songs and has held that admiration for 20 years. I feel like I should give the nod to nothing man due to the longevity

But goddamn we all may not be around in 20 years at this point to give DOTC its proper due so fuck it. DOTC gets my vote.

And for now I’m going to put in both songs and weep feeling gratitude that I love a band like this that has created these two songs.

It's like you reached into my head, pulled out the thoughts, and put them in writing.

Dance in a close one.

Man it feels good to legitimately be able to vote for a great recent PJ tune.

This is why I’ve called this tourney for DOTC since the first round. It’s a stellar track riding the wave of newness. Which is awesome. But we could really just shut this whole thing down now. No amount of Norris BOJ posts stands a chance against new PJ that legitimately stands with their best tracks of all time.

I think you're right, Trag -- I'm not sure I'd put all my chips on it going all the way (yet), but I listened to the first few songs on Gigaton on my way to pick up lunch today and, man, this really is a tremendous song. And even though the sense of "newness" (i.e. novelty) has largely worn off, the impact the song made and what it signifies is still close enough in the rearviewmirror for it to remain fresh; this band, who felt like they were on life support for so long, managing to turn in such a vital song that at the same time was so off-script will always be a lovely thing to remember. My long-term connections to a lot of Pearl Jam songs are a lot of what have allowed them to continue feeling special to me over the course of my lifetime, but I'm also interested in the (inherently flawed, I realize) thought experiment of, "If I was hearing these two songs for the first time today, assuming I had no other knowledge of Pearl Jam but all of my other tastes were the same, which one would I like better?" In that setting it's pretty amazing how many songs I think "Dance of the Clairvoyants" would probably win against, and "Nothingman" is probably one of them, even though I think it would hold its own better than a lot of others. These are two excellent songs, but poor "Nothingman" feels like it kind of drew the short straw here, forced to stand in for any number of other songs that could have been asked to represent the traditional, familiar PJ against the still-recent feeling that they're still capable of surprising us.

Yeah it is not a recency thing for me: I like Dance of the Clairvoyants better than Nothingman.

There’s *maybe* ten songs I’d pick before DOTC, and Nothingman just happens to be one of them

It just feels great this song is so widely liked. Gives me so much hope for the future of the band.

I'm actually doing this as we speak. I have Dance at 30 right now...may seem low but i've only got 1 song from 2000 and beyond ranked ahead of it.

I feel like 30 seems about right, if I had to guess.
