Re: 228. Dance of the Clairvoyants vs. In My Tree
In My Tree remains my favorite song. Of course it gets my vote. And as I said in another thread, losing to Dance is far better than any of the previous matches. So I've made my peace with it. Dance is a great song
But my heart belongs to In My Tree.

Absolutely.tragabigzanda wrote:In My Tree is a plodding, naval gazing tune with a pretty cool bridge. Dance is wonderful, five stars.

Love IMT. It is a top five PJ song.Chris_H_2 wrote:In My Tree is a top 5 PJ song. There’s no shame in voting for it over Dance.

Interesting take. I like DOTC, but can really appreciate your take on IMT.Jorge wrote:The asshole in me wants to make some snarky remark like "I can't believe how impressed you people still are by Baby's First David Byrne Pastiche," but that would be giving in to my pettiest impulses (or I could write a post about how I won't post that, truly having my cake and eating it too).
I respect that folks love "Dance of the Clairvoyants," a song that I've just revisited for the first time in a year and still registers as utterly insipid, but to me "In My Tree" remains a uniquely powerful piece of songwriting and performance that captures everything I ever loved about Pearl Jam. It is one of the dozen or so PJ songs that still manage to move me. And as it heads off to meet its likely demise at the hands of this fresh-faced hotshot, I felt compelled to cast my first and potentially only vote of March Madness 2021 in its favor. For old time's sake

i've posted about this, but when DOTC first came out the only song i could think to compare it to was In My Tree. when 'no code' first came out In My Tree blew me away. it just seemed like such a weird turn, but in a good way. i get the same feeling about DOTC. In My Tree is a top 3 pearl jam song for me, so it gets my vote.

Wow, can’t believe DOTC is going to lose to In My Tree. The all time worst call I’ve ever seen in an RM matchup

It’s either top 5 for people or it’s middle of the pack. It never goes much further than final 8 or so. Dance could still take this. It’ll be annoying if the dinosaur vote takes it.

Never mind. I see it’s no longer a single vote.

As for dinosaur, most of the songs left in the tournament are older than IMT.

Yeah, but .... In My Tree!stip wrote:[I remember being not quite sure what to make of this son on the first listen, which was absolutely nothing I was prepared for and not initially in love with. But once that outro kicked in I was just completely captivated - and there is still a kind of breathless surprise I feel every time it kicks in god knows how many listens later. Probably the most surprised, in the best way possible, I've ever been by a Pearl Jam song. No mean feat 29 years in.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: 228. Dance of the Clairvoyants vs. In My Tree
First, this ain't over. Second, even if RM hasn't lost it's mind and makes the right decision here, IMT won't go much further. Like LMS said, it always makes it around the elite eight but doesn't go further than that.
Which, come to think of it, might be reason enough to vote for Dance. Maybe it has the newness legs to go further than IMT could?
But it won't matter, somehow Go will win again.
