damnit how long do we have?
punch drunk love is doing a lot of work for tree.

but the strength of marty over fincher is hard to ignore.

i also reaaaally don't like meryl streep.
agree on the directors, but I’m not really comparing in that way in each matchup…yet…
i'm not sure i'm doing it that way yet either

Fincher usually leaves me feeling like there’s just one thing missing, or one thing that doesn’t fully work for me that keeps his stuff out of absolute top tier…I generally look forward to anything he has his hands on though

I agree, but I think that's his style and it's intentional. He likes the audience to feel uneasy.

Fincher defined the late 90s/early 00s look of everything. Lots of dark green and orange hues.

i wouldn’t categorize my feelings as uneasy or based on style…it may be more narrative based, but I’m really not sure

I really don't get how anyone can dislike Meryl Streep's acting. Her real life personality, sure... but her acting is as good as it gets.

It probably is narrative based. I agree with that. I didn't pick him for his movies, but for his style. As far as I'm concerned his eye, execution and attention to detail are top-notch.

i associate fincher's style with a certain slickness (in a good way)

Just curious, would anyone have thought better of my team had I picked Brian De Palma? I was really close because I didn't want the overlap (Social Network) but had to go with my heart.

Whiplash is one of those movies that didn't age well for me. Loved it a lot at first.

I think I prefer Fincher over Scorsese, but it's a tough call. Scorsese never knows when to end his fucking movies!

Not even close. Unreal that people are hating on Miami Vice in here. And Fincher is little league compared to Scorsese.

Fargo, The Godfather, The Shining, DDL, Streep. That’s solid.
