Im so happy with the band really. Im not a fan of the 02-04 phase. Since 05 they have pretty much gone to what i was expecting or wanting. The 08 tour remains a very sloppy one but besides that, im super happy with the band.
I do want them to release more music.

The preface for me is that the 00-05 "era" is probably my favorite. I was thinking earlier this morning what it is exactly that is missing. Honestly I think Ed is a bit too 'happy'. I've had this discussion with my wife and we come to the conclusion that since he's at a different phase of his life, married, kids who sort of grown so that you don't have to micromanage them, it's harder to find that piss and vinegar he had in 2003. Does anyone think he fights with the crowd like he did at Uniondale now? Not a chance. Instead of being a shithouser like in 2003, he tries to be an MC of the event these days. It's still fine. Just not the same.

Gigaton is a real PJ album so I'm happy about it, but it's a bit too soon to say I don't miss anything; I'm still hoping Gigaton wasn't a fluke

Gonna be hilarious when Ed brings Josh Klingerman into the studio and he ends up with more writing credits than Stone on the next album

I think Stone would at this point gladly let him replace him

Who ever said (sorry) 'better guitar tones' was absolutely right. Also:
- Less talking between songs
- No Boom
- Fewer covers/guest appearances
- Urgency/focus

Boom doesn't bother me too much but the rest of this is spot on for me.

Yeah, I should probably amend that list and take Boom off of it. Obviously, he seems like a really cool guy, and if I'm honest, the days of him ruining In My Tree, Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns, etc are well behind us. But his big spotlight organ solo in Crazy Mary just feels like a time suck that could otherwise be used to play another, more compelling song. I guess I just never really thought he added that much to justify his presence and often felt he was a musical liability.

I liked his keyboard mashing dueling solos with Mike on Crazy Mary - it actually made me care about those live performances for a bit. I think they did that on RM a few times as well. Less essential, but still fun

Yeah, this was fun for a tour or two. I think now I'd agree that I'd prefer a tighter Crazy Mary and fill the time with another song. Of course it doesn't show up as often as it did back then either, so.
