This is a tough one. Love Given To Fly and Parting Ways. Severed Hand is mediocre though.

Given To Fly is a regular Top 16 visitor, with its best performance coming in a 15-14 loss to Black in the 2009 final.

Parting Ways was booted by Hail, Hail in the top 16 of 2010.

Severed Hand has made more Top 32s than Parting Ways (4 to 2), but also only one Top 16: a 55-5 drubbing by Brain of J. in 2015.

Given to Fly is a joy. One of Pearl Jam's most important songs. Easy vote


I like everything Severed Hand is doing, but it feels oddly neutered on an album that is desperate to shove every other song in your face. It's a good song that would be a great song if they got to it on a different album (or revisited it). That riff that Stone plays going into and through the second verse is a keeper.


parting ways is too successful for its own good. It is meant to sound alienated and slowly dying, and it does, and it gives it the beauty it needs, but it is also a hard song to love. It's not that its too dark or depressing - it's just that the things it succeeds at on its own terms make it an overall less engaging listen. The live versions are a treat though - they strip away the dreariness and expose how strong the core composition is. I wish it had become a staple, or at least more common

I kind of dont want to vote because i dont want to choose between any of these. Theyre all some of my absolute favorites!

Leaning towards GTF though. The opening riff on the studio cut is so gorgeously captured and the way Jack Irons just slides right in. its also maybe eds best vocal delivery.

Man, its really depressing that PJ seems to have stopped playing many of the best S/T songs. Severed Hand should still be played at nearly every show. God, theyre dumb.
