totally agree with skitch then.

hey, @skitchp - could you explain please? I don't think you're an asshole. I mean, I do think you're an asshole, but just in general, which I appreciate in people, but I'm pretty baffled by your comment.

Telecom's down in Crimea. It's nice how seriously Russia is taking all those Western warnings, though.

Appearing for the first time since fleeing Ukraine, Yanukovych struck a tone both of bluster and caution — vowing to “keep fighting for the future of Ukraine,” while ruling out seeking Russian military help.

“Any military action in this situation is unacceptable,” Yanukovych told reporters in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don, near the border with Ukraine. Then, seeking to make a firm point, he tried — and failed — to break a pen.

This is too long to post here, but the gist is that Pierre Omidyar (owner of Snowden's NSA documents) helped fund this whole mess.

I'm really starting to think that Vladimir Putin makes all his decisions while listening to the Inception soundtrack.

So is this...

...a bad reaction to the Ukraine fucking up Putin's Eurasian Union dreams?

...yet another example of Putin's uncanny ability to know exactly how far he can take aggressive stance without introducing real risk, in order to keep himself a major player on the world stage and fuel Russian nationalist pride?

...an opportunity to use the Ukraine's current instability, the presence of a Russian-identifying populace in the area, and the West's post-Iraq timidity to "re-acquire" a portion of the USSR's former grain basket?

...the result of a lost bet?

...the result of a won bet?

...just the sort of thing Vlad the Lady Impaler does on weekends when he's drunk?

Not the three I would have guessed, but I guess those are the kinds of insights that come with having cable.

Don't see any reason not to conquer what he can. He knows the west is decadent and weak!

Crap I just realized this has real implications for me. Russians sign my paychecks. Now this just got important!

Get me the president on the phone!

Real Talk: 90% of the pictures of Yakov Smirnoff LOOK like he's on the phone.

so does no one around here actually care about this?

seems pretty tragic, that the protesters went through what they did to get control of kiev only for this to happen. I think the pro-russian citizens living in the Ukraine have legitimate concerns but there is no way that having the russian military on their side is fair.

where is this all heading?
