Was thinking of this thread the other day when of all things Eddie Money's "Two Tickets to Paradise" came on. I've always loved the drum sound on that. So crisp and professional sounding. Gary Mallaber on the kit.
Turns out Bruce Botnick produced and Andy Johns (Glyn's bro) engineered.
Use this knowledge wisely.

Though I guess maybe that has to do with the monotony of the part and its prominence in the mix more than the actual capture of the sound.

i've been listening to this one recently. i think i heard someone refer to it as a "gunshot" snare. its almost comical to me, its just so 80s. the album is great though.
