Or the truth isn't often as sound as it it supposed to be. What you think is the truth is a lie. What others hear as a lie could be the truth.

Even if that's what he means, it still significantly downgrades the lyric for me
It's like how it always kinda bugged me that he always changes it to "
we'll end up alone like
we began", which is nice and inclusive and all, but just no where near as powerful as "I'll end up alone like I began".
