I loosely divide the 90s between grunge, gangsta rap, and boy band/Britney Spears.

Good suggestion. Beck has that ability and especially in this song, to do that thing where he incorporates all these musical elements but makes it highly listenable while delivering a tongue in cheek message that sums up the vibe.
