Granddaddy / Jason Lytle re-recorded Sophtware Slump on solo piano

I think it’s fun, brings a new view to some songs. But doesn’t touch the original.

I have the solo piano LP and it sounds great. I'd have to listen to them back to back to see if there are any songs I like better on piano.

I can’t think of any specific examples at the moment, but there have been songs I’ve found on Spotify that have been re-recorded — years later — by either the full band or the lead singer bc Spotify didn’t have streaming rights to the originals

Jason Molina also did this often. There are 2 versions of Hammer Down, one with a full band and one solo acoustic. I think I like the full band one more.

Gang of Four re-did a bunch of their stuff for Return The Gift.
Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven re-did some songs for their respective hits compilations.
Nine Inch Nails re-recorded a bunch of tracks for Still.
The Jesus And Mary Chain re-recorded "The Hardest Walk" for the Some Kind of Wonderful soundtrack.
R.E.M. famously re-recorded "Radio Free Europe" for Murmur.
