i admire you for wanting more from a person responsible for:

ringing up energy drinks
ringing up donuts
gas on pump 1-whatever
cigarettes, swishers, and rolling papers
emptying trash cans
fraud attempts
drunks
dealing with rude and unruly people

nobody wants to work anymore, and it shows.

People just don't have pride in their work anymore.

i kind of agree with you. however, when a large percentage of their work has been outsourced to tech, what's left?
