I love this guy's style so much. I wish he wouldn't have quit PJ, I would have love to hear him on those Binaural tracks.

This whole show

11/03/96 – Deutschlandhalle: Berlin, Germany [125m]
support act: The Fastbacks
set: Long Road, Last Exit, Animal, Hail Hail, Go, Red Mosquito, In My Tree, Corduroy, Better Man, Lukin, Mankind, Hunger Strike, Even Flow, Daughter/(Androgynous Mind)/(Noise of Carpet), Jeremy, Sometimes, Rearviewmirror, Immortality, Alive, Blood/(Fame)/(Suck You Dry)
enc: Who You Are, State of Love and Trust, Not for You, Present Tense, Leaving Here, Yellow Ledbetter
notes: This show was broadcast by many radio stations around the world, opening with a recording of John F. Kennedy’s famous speech (“I am a Berliner”). After the first few songs, Ed asks, “How’s everybody in Berlin tonight? For any of you are in the back and can’t see, it’s pretty damn packed in front is everybody OK? … Do yourselves and everyone else a favor and watch out for your neighbor … protect the women and children” leading to ‘Red Mosquito.’ After ‘Lukin,’ Stone steps up and says, “Alright, I’m gonna sing one,” launching ‘Mankind.’ A short version of ‘Hunger Strike is a nice surprise, with the crowd loudly singing along. After ‘RVM,’ Ed breaks into a brief, very fast-paced spoken word ditty (from ‘Museum Song’):

Well, I've said it before. Binaural for me ranks at the very bottom of the PJ catalog.

P.S. Btw, worst*

I mean you can't hear him during the majority of songs they play anyway

I feel like I've demonstrated that in the best possible way. We can all leave enlightened.

You don't like Low Light, and you don't like Binaural. I, I, I don't know what to post. So nothing on Binaural tickles your fancy? Rival? Insignificance? What about the outtakes? Anyway, I stand by what I posted...Jack would have done wonders on Binaural. Especially on tunes like: Of The Girl, Parting Ways, Rival, Thin Air, and Light Years.

Incredible thread, thanks.

Water Song (w Mr. Gossard) /Sulhiana/Ocean's Light/Outer Space Dream/Sonic Tonic/Doubloons/Moon Tune/Breaking Sea/Dunes (with Mr. Ament)/EarthQuake and Don't Sock Me are my favourites.

Jack's solo records are totally to my taste, which there's no accounting for, but I feel these discs reach a really high level of musicianship.

As for his Pearl Jam days, I love the Yield/No Code era cuts live and in studio, but watching the clip in this thread of 'Deep' is telling about how his live sound was unlike what they were going for with the Ten/Vs era live show.

Lastly, I think Cameron is amazing and a warrior live, who has contributed to some of their finest recordings, but Jack did have a sound at least in the studio that is simply unique and irreplaceable.

Pearl Jam are yet to make a song famous for its drumming sinse Jack left.

I don't know about "famous" but the way the drums are mic'd on Can't Keep might be the best and most identifiable part of that song.

Do jack irons fans think his drumming would have worked well on Binaural. it's such a closeted, claustrophobic, tightly wound album that I'm not sure his style would have fit.

Good point. Never really thought of it but to my mind he would have given a bit more swing to Rival and Education. Added a nice pattern to Parting Ways. That might be it.

I've often wondered what all the records and songs would have sounded like had jack hung around.
