Re: Setting Sun
I haven't listened yet, but if this happened to be Pearl Jam's last album, would it make a good coda to their career?

This is legitimately top tier Pearl Jam.

Re: Setting Sun
There isn’t a song that encapsulates something from every PJ era quite like this one does.

Other than possibly Waiting for Stevie, I am expecting this to be my favorite song

Re: Setting Sun
If I’m hearing the lyrics correctly it might end up as one of my top PJ songs.

Re: Setting Sun
this one has enormous potential. I love a great closer, and I still think the last truly top shelf closer was Immortality. Or Indifference if you're confused about where Vitalogy actually ends

Re: Setting Sun
It's a big grower for sure. I think it's more in line with Parting Ways (another fantastic track). It doesn't reach the stratosphere of Immortality, I think it would need some extended solo for that. But it's definitely the best closer since Inside Job. It's making me convinced this is the strongest album since Avocado, flat out.stip wrote:this one has enormous potential. Re: Setting Sun
I think Parting Ways and Inside Job are good comps...Inside Job probably reaches a higher crescendo but I think I like the build up in Setting Sun more after a few listens at low quality. Plenty of room for this one to grow on me as well.Vindicator wrote:It's a big grower for sure. I think it's more in line with Parting Ways (another fantastic track). In my brain, this title is from Into the Wild even though I know it's not.

This song is glorious and I love that Stone said it's the kind of song that they could explore more in the future. Right now it sits as my favorite Pearl Jam song since Avocado.

Re: Setting Sun
This song is brilliant. The second half is probably the most euphoric thing they've done since forever. My God, Ed's vocals truly soar. And it helps that what he's singing is so poignant. I need the official lyrics to confirm, but whatever I can make out hits me right in the feels.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Let Me Sleep meets Pink Floyd's Animals meets Bruce Springsteen's Magic.
Sublime.
