I didn't say you said he was objectively bad! I'm accusing you of bad taste!

Whether it’s the infamous basement scene in Álvarez’s 2016 hit, Don’t Breathe, or any number of scenes in his Evil Dead (2013) reimagining, he has a knack for making audiences squirm in their seats. Romulus is also following suit, as Merced recently told THR about a “disgusting” scene of hers that prompted ten people on set to avert their eyes in revulsion during playback. That scene is alluded to in the opening shot of the new teaser, in that you see remnants of it and hear isolated dialogue of Merced’s character during the sequence. For Álvarez, the disturbingly ambitious scene is meant to be his crack at creating something in the same vein as Scott’s iconic chestburster sequence in the ‘79 film.
I thought the surgery scene in Prometheus was a worthy sequence that balanced suspense, horror, and limited gore without being over the top disgusting. I found it almost thrilling.

Ridley subsequently went too far, for my taste, in Covenant both in terms of the gore level and leaving nothing to the imagination with the xenos. Alvarez seems like an absolute sicko so I'm bracing for disappointment.

the teaser was ok? It seemed like a classic Alien movie teaser. Maybe closer to a video game than a movie.

I dont know, i think the original Alien is the only really good film of the bunch and for that, for me, it was kind of the tension throughout the film.

I think Alvarez, is at least good at that tension. The gratuitous violence can be worthy if constructed well in the story. it can be a payoff.

If its just constant blood and guts, then it loses the impact.

Im curious!

Where does this one take place in the timeline?

Between Alien and Aliens.

There's a pretty major story spoiler floating around so tread lightly on the Internet until August.

There did seem to be a shot of one of the women hiding in a closet.

It’s set between the first two Alien movies, so de-aged Ripley’s a lock.

Isn't Ripley asleep for 50(?) years between Alien and Aliens?

I’ve not seen any of these after the first sequel. Is it a series I should devote my time towards watching?

That’s what we were led to believe UNTIL NOW.

FUCK YES

leave the alien vs predator movies out though. And you need to include Prometheus and Covenant.

So do them in chronological order?

And why leave out AvP?

You can probably skip Alien: Resurrection as well (although I've never seen it)

I should finally watch it. I was thinking of rewatching the whole series as well.
