in hiding and faithful are way ahead of the rest, and what is interesting is that we roomed together in 98 and he kind of made fun of Eddie’s vibratto in those songs

This thread is about Dave and his pearl jam journey. Should you care? That is for you to decide.

My Wife has been remarkably busy at work, and didn't want to listen to Dark Matter until she had a chance to genuinely listen...Well, she finally got that chance tonight, and she said,
"This is a beautiful album. It's so fundamentally them."
She pressed play again as soon as it ended.

Sorry stip's friend Dave...You sound like a swell fella, barring some questionable rankings...Carry on

So, the new album has been getting play in my car on the weekend when it's my wife and daughter and I going out, running errands etc.

I know they don't like PJ in general (a few songs, but could take or leave) and I turned to a radio station so they could listen to some 80s and my wife said "oh you can keep your pearl jam on"

so that means it's tolerable. I'll take what I can get.

(her favorite songs are Yellow Ledbetter, You Are, Betterman, Alive). I had Retrograde on a year or so ago and wife and daughter liked it.

Im doing an album a week with my girlfriend who will be coming with me to see them in September (woo!)

She seems to be enjoying it though she is a bigger fan of soft songs than the hard rocky ones, but she likes Eddie's voice. We had heard Dark Matter together and os far did Ten and Vs.

I'm excited to see how she feels about every album, so far she seemed to enjoy Dark Matter the most of all of them lol, but she is torn between Ten and Vs - she likes the soft songs like Daughter, Elderly Woman, Indifference, and is not really liking Eddie's vocals on the wilder songs on Vs, but she thinks his lyrics on Vs are better (it's true, I have noticed this now too).

I mentioned it in the indifference thread but I never fully appreciated how good this was as a closer for the album until she talked about the themes - how the whole album (nearly every song in fact) is an angry lashing out against injustice, power differences, the evils of the world and of mankind, and how Indifference then adds a contemplative undercutting of that at the end, with Eddie wondering if any of his fighting can even make a difference. And the fact that "I will scream my lungs out til it fills this room" sort of has extra power considering the album up to this point is a lot of Eddie's angriest and most aggressive vocals (sometimes literally screaming), with Indifference taking a quiet moment after all the righteous anger to wonder if any of that can even actually make a difference or matter.

I already loved Vs, but I like it even more now with that thought in mind, that Indifference is not just a stand-alone song, but a song that questions the entire album. It gives such a melancholy coda to the album as a whole. SO I really enjoyed showing her this and getting her perspective.

when i told my bf that i got shutout for PJ tix to PHI and they were $600 on TM and I asked if I could go, he gave me a pained look and replied 'just as long as I don't have to go too'

the inference that he might have to join and listen to modern pearl jam for 2 hours was a source of significant temporary stress
