I love Ed's vocal at the beginning that gets louder as the music builds.

Thanks to this thread I played "Rarities Unreleased Cuts" all the way through for the first time in a couple years today--great listen, I'd forgotten how different many of the takes are from their released versions. That said, I think a lot of my favorite versions of these songs (the Ten-era ones) come from third party sources--the acoustic "Hold On," live versions of "Brother" from the 2009 tour (one song that I think was performed consistently well that year), the 1993 version of "Alone." Something about all that drama in Ed's voice from the 1990-91 era just doesn't work for me no matter how you frame it.

Also, is the "Yellow Ledbetter" on Lost Dogs different from the single version?

Apart from State of Love and Trust, Alone and maybe Footsteps, I don't think these songs were correctly left as b-sides, rarities, unreleased etc. I certainly don't think these songs make anything approaching a good album to follow Vs.

I also wouldn't equate this with the tracks left off Binaural as I don't think any of these songs could have gone on Ten and made it a better record whereas Fatal, Education and Sad would improve Binaural. Perhaps you could swap Deep for SOLAT but that would be controversial.

I think it is the same, but I have been told down is different and I missed that so I could be wrong

I only like a handful of the Ten out-takes. 'Just a Girl' is a horrible song.

It's the exact same version, except on Lost Dogs the last second or so of the fade-out is inexplicably (and presumably accidentally) cut off :?

Bullshit. It's 1,000X better than "Hold On", "Brother" or "Breath".

Someone should write a parody called 'Just a Song'.

I really loved 2,000 Miles Blues and am sad it's left out of this discussion. I pretty much like it more than any other b-side off Ten save for maybe the Alone, Brother, SOLAT, Breath pantheon. I'd love Pearl Jam to do a blues bar band album just for the sake of it. That thread would be worth at least a thousand pages compared to that piddly little Lightning Bolt apocalypse thread.

Can someone tell me the story on the Hold On vocals being redone? When I heard the Lost Dogs version for the first time, I thought hang on something is fishy with the Vox. As in it was sort of like the 2000-2002 growl he had on. Did Ed re-record them?
