We're not interested in logging in every place a song appears as much as where the different versions are.

You guys need to do this incorporating every live version.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking of. Are they actually any different though? I don't think it was rerecorded, but was it remastered or anything?

okay, someone with access to both songs please give a listen.

They're different. The 1999 45 version is a little faster. I aligned them in a multitrack session with one panned to the left and the other to the right, and aligned them so the opening lyrics start at the exact same time and they gradually drift out of alignment.

Also, to get the opening line synced up the guitar playing before that is slightly out of time.

Here, listen. The left channel is the original and the right channel is Lost Dogs.

Same performance though, it sounds like. Could this be due to a difference in tape speeds and whatnot?

Or maybe one was Protooled for tempo correction and the other one wasn't. The performances appear to be identical.

Maybe, but if they came from the same performance they'd have the same master recording, right? Would the discrepancy then come from an analog transfer for one and then a different transfer for the other?

I agree with you. The only difference is with the mastering (which might seem more different than it is because the original one is a vinyl transfer) and the speed.

That's what I was wondering. Maybe the vinyl version was ripped from a player that had a slightly off RPM?

I do think the Lost Dogs version is mastered differently though.
