That's how one builds a business. They spent all their money building the thing and now they need to make money to keep the business alive.

They’re former soldiers and gangsters, not shrewd businessmen.
The model was basically throw a house party together every night. Make enough to order Papa John’s for dinner and purchase another keg.

I really enjoyed this. Not a masterpiece by any means, but still solid. There was nothing wrong with the color grading or lighting and I felt that there was ample tension in the second half.
Also, I don't think "tonal whiplash" is a big deal in horror-adjacent films. It's been done plenty of times and it worked well here.
