The Piano Accident.
I just love Quentin Dupieux’ s films, this one felt quite normal for his mostly deranged comedy but its also the saddest.
Adèle Exarchopoulos is marvellous as an influencer, and gotta say, i know a lot of real ones who behave just like this character.

I hate that Mubi keeps buying up the US rights to Dupieux movies

Im glad.
It also makes sense as they sometimes premiere them at the movies and they also push them on their streaming service so you actually know they are available.

Yeah except it pretty much guarantees no physical release and I can't rent or buy them digitally either. I'm not paying $15 for a month of Mubi to watch one movie.

well dont do it.
MUBI has lots of great movies and series. Im sure there are enough stuff to watch in one month. You could also subscribe for a week and watch it for free.
or
You can always use Stremio.

I already did this to watch the last few Dupieux movies they swallowed so I can't anymore. I did watch some other stuff but a week was enough for everything.
Streaming services in general have gotten way too expensive now. It was the sweet spot when they were like ~$8 a month. Now everything seems to be asking $15-$30 (or more sometimes!). Totally absurd, not worth it at all.

yeah streaming got expensive...but i very gladly pay for this one.
I also have Hbo Max, who has gorgeous old Warner transfers and some other stuff i see.
Both of them are pretty cheap here.
I dont pay for Netflix or Disney, mostly because their bulk of content suck hard. If i wanna see something from them, i use stremio and im very happy with my choices.

Thanks for reminding me to watch The Piano Accident. I love Dupieux, I don't think we've ever talked about him here before?

i talked about him before not sure in which thread. I recently saw ¨Le deuxième acte¨ and found it hilarious. Also big fan of ¨Rubber¨ of course.
Next in line is ¨Yannick¨

Dupieux is one of the best directors working. Mandibles and Deerskin are my favorites - ADORE them both. But Rubber, Yannick, Keep an Eye Out, and Smoking Causes Coughing are also great.

Yannick has got me fucked up. That is some kind of movie.
After Piano Accident, I watched Keep an Eye Out and Smoking Causes Coughing. I found both to be very funny and charming and strange and really enjoyable.
Yannick is a whole other thing. I was genuinely terrified! And sad about a lot of it. It was not enjoyable, and I never laughed, but it is a tremendous movie. I don't think I really have a box in my head I can put it in quite yet. It's something else

Yannick is a mindfuck. But it’s also very funny and enjoyable. Dupieux is amazing. The total antidote to what most acclaimed directors are doing right now (read: having fun twisting around a ton of complex ideas in a very short runtime)

yeah, Yannick is wonderful. Very funny and like you said, very sad. I like the ending too, that cut to black is pretty powerful.

"Thoroughbreds"
not the artiest thing available on MUBI but fancied something middlebrow; I don't know why it's taken me so long as I'm a fan of both main actors (Olivia Cook from Bates Motel, Anya from, well everything) but yeah this is a really good movie, if a bit familiar (very "Cruel Intentions", "Heathers", rich people psycho thriller type beat)
