Something that seems to have gotten lost is the scenario specified that if you don't die, you are warped back dry and unharmed. Unharmed! That means that even if a shark rips off your leg, even if you get swept up in a big wave and pass out, if you somehow developed rapid onset hypothermia, even if a group of orcas sexually assault you, you return to regular life fully intact.

Couple that with the statistical unlikelihood of actually popping up in one of those extreme danger scenarios (like Burt said, the ocean is unfathomably vast and mostly boring) I think the mortality risk in that 30-second window is kind of negligible.

Ello said it would suck and you'd be miserable and I think that's probably correct. But the risk of actually dying in those 30 seconds seems low to me!

so you have a wolverine/deadpool style healing factor and cannot die unless you die in that within the 30 seconds completely. What if you die at 29 seconds do you still get teleported back to your original location with your full health?

It's not even a healing factor, it's that you return as if nothing happened. The warp back fixes you, like magic.

If you die at 29 seconds you die!

I'd take the deal.

I'm not a fast swimmer by any means, but I can stay afloat for a very long time and also get from point A to point B effectively.

I’ve never ridden a jet ski.

What if you are dropped off right near a rocky outcrop and get slammed into it at 10 seconds?

Also, everyone can float. But imagine being in bed at 2 a.m., and then you are transported and wake up in this.

I'm a pretty good swimmer. I grew up on a lake and swam all the time.

A big piece of ice will split your skull open if you find yourself swimming in the Arctic Ocean

And if that's the last thing I ever see?

Not bad.

I'm a decent swimmer. I swim in the ocean a dozen or so times a year. The one realistically legitimate "near death" experience was in the ocean. It was humbling but also a little settling. There was a clam that broke through the fast dread and I was shocked how relaxed I was thinking I was going to die.

The ocean is amazing

A clam saved your life. The ocean is amazing indeed.

This sounds like a Ed Vedder song.
