i don't know him, but he's obviously talented. this thread is bearing out some of the problems and confusions noted in that mini-essay. i think the essay gets anderson and the reception of his films totally correct.

it is a complicated relationship that a writer has with film--particularly if the writer subscribes to the auteur theory. to be sated is to die. validation is putrefaction.

Never understood this style over substance complaint about Wes Anderson. He has created some of the most unique characters put on film over the last 20 years. I'm sorry, but not every character-driven movie has to look like a Cassavetes film.

i like how wes anderson stars are all on the waifish side. you can tell they have good cardio routines.

Btw, I thumbed through that Wes Anderson Collection book. It's kind of neat. Tim Burton's art book is pretty cool too.
