Coal mining is the source of Thorium, and Thorium solves our problems for the next 200-300 or until graphene-based solar cells and batteries can be manufactured on an industrial scale.

I only skimmed those articles, but how is the mining for hydrocarbons and thorium intertwined? Is it necessary for mining only for thorium to be as disruptive as typical coal mining is?

I do agree that we should be going full bore on making thorium more promising.

Thorium is one of the byproducts of coal mining (as well as mining rare earth metals). Federal regulations demand it be disposed of at great cost to miners and processors. Industry literally spends millions and millions each year throw away >90% of the energy gathered when producing each ton of coal we get from mines.

The worst fallacy recorded history creates is that it's easy to predict history. I have a hard time pretending either way that I can understand complex processes based on news articles or that I can confidently measure judgment calls based on the summations of those with a stake in the game.
